For quite a while my aim has been to produce high-quality concept art and turn them into 3D-assets that are ready to use for game world. I started modeling in 2009 and have been drawing for as long as i can remember. The idea for the first volume of this series was to create a hundred-percent custom asset that can be used in a level as a tiled or single prop. Later i probably will create videos of the process as well. The overall time it took to create this piece from concept to complete prop was around two days.
The target environment i chose for this first piece is 1940-50's high-tech, even a bit exaggerated, military/industrial facility that has seen a lot of use and punishment. Some of the references i glanced at for this were pictures of old airplane plating and rugged out-of-commission industrial machines.
The main charasteristics i decided for this environment asset was:
- Painted

The finished piece can be tiled without glitches, the tri count is fairly low. The screenshots are taken with Xoliulshader 1.3 in 3D Studio MAX which i used to model the asset. I was pretty happy with the result which is slightly different from the concept art but still has all the characteristics that were set. One example of this would be the red paint which you can see in the concept art piece which was eventually removed.
